My Story
I wanted to share a little about me, so you know who you are signing up with. I grew up in Monterey CA, attended music school after high school, and I had a career in the music business for many years. In my late 20's I was not feeling fulfilled by my career, and decided to go college as an adult learner to follow my life long dream of becoming a psychotherapist.
I received my Associate in Arts for Transfer in Psychology & General Education from Monterey Peninsula College, my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Cal State Monterey Bay, and I received my Masters of Arts degree in Psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy and professional clinical counseling from Brandman University - now named UMass Global.

I began my career in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and have worked with a wide range of clients, including trauma survivors, LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities, immigrants, homeless women and families, and people from diverse cultures and economic backgrounds. Trained in trauma-informed care, I focus on understanding the root causes of mental health issues, shifting the perspective from “what’s wrong with you” to “what happened to you.” As we are not defined by our struggles, but by how we choose to approach them.

I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy; instead, I integrate various modalities based on each client’s needs and the ongoing changes in their lives. I incorporate elements like music, and nature into treatment, believing they can create memorable and long-lasting healing experiences. Humor, too, plays a key role in my practice—finding lightness in the darkness is a powerful tool for healing and change.

I’m committed to equality, justice, equity, and inclusion. Everyone has the right to respectful, quality care, regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, or economic status. Your story and experiences are unique and worth sharing, and I believe in your ability to heal. So, come join me—give therapy a try, and you might find exactly what you’re looking for.

Warmly,
Tarin Muir-Davis, AMFT
